As part of the International Symposium "Creating the Future," the discussion "Cities of the Future: Creating Living Spaces" brought together urban development specialists from Russia and abroad. Participants examined what makes a successful city in the coming decades and identified key measures for creating comfortable and sustainable living environments.
The panel included international experts, among them political leaders and representatives of major urban organizations, each sharing unique insights into the future of urban development.
Ephraim Abel Kayembe, a member of the Malawi Parliament, emphasized the importance of creating inclusive cities.
"The city of the future is an inclusive city that meets the essential needs of its residents while adhering to the principles of sustainable development," Kayembe stated.
According to him, inclusivity and sustainability are fundamental to making cities suitable for living and working in an ever-changing world.
James Law, CEO of Cybertecture from Hong Kong, highlighted the transformative potential of technology and infrastructure to reshape cities and the planet.
"Cities are humanity's greatest invention throughout the history of civilization. At Cybertecture, we believe that cities are the future of salvation. They can become fully self-sufficient—producing their own food, generating water, and purifying air. If this happens, the entire planet will resemble a new, futuristic model of development," Law explained.
He emphasized that integrating eco-friendly technologies and autonomous systems can make cities maximally self-sufficient and independent.
Royya Leyli, Director of Urban Diplomacy and Member Relations at the Asian Mayors Forum from Ramsar, Iran, stressed the importance of sustainable urban planning.
"It is crucial to create sustainable urban plans that incorporate transport development, green spaces, and community engagement in city life. Building strong connections between urban planners and residents is essential. Innovations are equally critical, as 'smart technologies' enable eco-friendly solutions and address urban challenges effectively," Leyli noted.
The National Center "Russia" was established by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin to preserve the legacy of the International Exhibition-Forum "Russia" and to permanently showcase the country's achievements and those of its citizens. Federal government agencies, state companies, corporations, and regions actively participate in the Center's initiatives.
The International Symposium "Creating the Future" was the first event hosted at the National Center "Russia," attracting over 6,000 guests from 101 countries.
